Background: Disaster events in Indonesia, including in North Sulawesi Province, continue to increase. Motivation to become a volunteer is an internal or external drive that drives someone to help without expecting anything in return. However, several previous studies have not revealed all the characteristics of motivation, especially in the student group. Nursing students have an important role as prospective health workers in disaster response. Purpose: to find out the description of motivation to become a disaster volunteer for students of the Nursing Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University. Method: this study uses a type with descriptive consisting of 364 students. The instrument used is a questionnaire about the Description of Motivation to Become a Disaster Volunteer which has previously been tested for validity. Results: This study shows that the results of the motivation level of nursing students as many as 271 respondents (74.5%) are highly motivated, 93 respondents (25.5%) are sufficiently motivated. Conclusion: from this study, the majority of respondents have a high level of motivation to become disaster volunteers, including in natural disasters, namely earthquakes and floods.
