Abstract

Background: The abuse of narcotics, psychotropic substances, and addictive substances (NAPZA) among adolescents remains a major public health challenge due to its negative impact on physical, mental, academic, and social well-being. Adolescents are highly vulnerable because they are in a developmental phase characterized by curiosity, identity seeking, and strong peer influence. Initial screening in Wori Village revealed a prevalence of drug use among 26.5% of adolescents, with most falling into the low to moderate risk categories. This highlights the urgent need for promotive and preventive interventions. Aim: This activity was to increase adolescent knowledge about the dangers of drug abuse through community-based interventions. Method: The method used was a community nursing process approach involving 16 adolescents selected through total sampling. The intervention stages included assessment, risk screening, community diagnosis, and a series of educational activities such as booklet-based health education, video watching, focus group discussions, refusal skills role play, and creating anti-drug campaign posters. Evaluation was carried out through a post-test. Results: Results showed a significant improvement in knowledge levels, with 91.2% of participants achieving the good knowledge category and 8.8% remaining in the moderate category. Conclusion: In conclusion, participatory, interactive, and visual community-based educational interventions were proven effective in strengthening adolescents’ understanding and serve as a foundation for changing attitudes and preventive behaviors against drug abuse
